This is a non-exempt, full-time, classified position with full benefits.

Equipment Operator I Range 20: Hiring range is $22.43 to $33.64.

Equipment Operator II Range 22: Hiring range is $24.72 to $37.09.

Descriptions:
Equipment Operator I: This position under general supervision of the Water Production and Distribution Foreman, operates a variety of light to heavy construction equipment and performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the City’s utility infra-structure. This position is responsible for meter reading when required and performs other duties as assigned. 
 
Equipment Operator II: Under general supervision of the Water Production and Distribution Foreman, a utility equipment operator II operates a variety of light to heavy construction equipment and performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the City’s utility infrastructure. When not operating machinery, an employee in this class is expected to take the initiative in assisting in the manual and technical aspects of construction, maintenance, and repair activities. This job carries out day to day activities in accordance with Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations as well as city policies and procedures. This class per-forms related duties as required. 
 
Minimum Qualifications:
Equipment Operator I: A high school diploma or its equivalent, a valid Arizona Driver’s license, one (1) year of experience operating, utility meter reading experience, maintaining and installing potable water distribution systems or similar underground construction, or any combination of education, skills, and experience that demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position successfully. Possession of, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire, an Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Grade I Water Distribution Certification and Trench Safety Competent Person Certification and ATSSA Flagger and Basic Work Zone 1 certification (or as soon as available to employee if not offered within 6 months.)
 
Equipment Operator II: A high school diploma or its equivalent, a valid Commercial Arizona Driver’s license (CDL), Class B, with tanker endorsement, and three (3) years of experience in the operations, maintenance, installation of potable and/or non-potable water distribution systems or similar underground construction, or any combination of education, skills, and experience that demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position successfully. Possession of, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire, an Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Grade 2 Water Distribution Certification and Safety Competent Person Certification and ATSSA Flagger and Basic Work Zone 1 certification (or as soon as available to employee if not offered in 6 months.) Possession of a ADEQ Grade 1 Water Treatment certification is desired.
 
Special Requirements:
Will be required to work overtime, holidays and weekends and be on-call 24 hours per day, per the departmental on-call policy. Must be able to respond to call out within twenty (20) minutes. Required to complete physical examination and drug screen to ensure ability to perform work requirements.
 
Physical Requirements:
This classification involves work that requires the ability to traverse uneven terrain, climb ladders, perform repairs on equipment, lifting heavy objects up to 60 pounds, digging, kneeling, crouching, hearing, seeing, speaking, and the ability to wear a respirator and use utility department equipment such as pumps, generators, pipe locator, pipe repair equipment and other types of machinery. Work may be performed in adverse weather conditions.
