Colonel's Daughter
A Camp Verde tradition, sponsored by the Camp Verde Cavalry. Young women from the Camp Verde area compete in poise and horsemanship for a set of spurs and the title of "Colonel's Daughter," inspired by the 1882 novel by Capt. Charles E. King.
The Colonels Daughter contest began in 1956 in a celebration by residents to revive the historic days of the town. The competition is judged on 50% horsemanship and 50% poise and personality, which would be expected of a young woman in the 1800s.
This event will feature the Town of Camp Verde's Little Britches and Petticoat Contest, for which contestants can compete for Historic Frontier Girl and Boy in the following age groups: 2-3, 4-5, and 7-12. Registration is free at VisitCampVerde.com, or call 928-554-0820 (3) or email parks@campverde.az.org for more information. Contestants can participate in the Fort Verde Days Parade on Saturday, October 12, 2024.
